Book review: The Girl In the Steel Corset by Kady Cross

The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1)The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kady Cross’ book The Girl In the Steel Corset tells the story of Finley Jayne, a young woman living in Victorian England when technology is on the rise. Horses and carriages are being replaced by metal versions and slowly, old times are making way for the new. But Finley has more to think of than just the changing atmosphere around her. There is a pull inside her – a dark pull that is unlike herself and yet, somehow exactly like her. When she finds herself in trouble because of her ability to exert extreme amounts of strength, she ends up at the house of Griffin King, who has a group of people with him who might be able to enlighten Finley on who – or what – she is. And just in time, too. There is a mysterious man by the name of The Machinist wreaking havoc and his reasoning for doing so has everything to do with Finley’s strange condition.

Book review: Sleepers by Megg Jensen

Sleepers (The Swarm Trilogy, #1)Sleepers by Megg Jensen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Many thanks to the author Megg Jensen and the publisher, DarkSide Publishing.

In the world of Sleepers, the first book in The Swarm Trilogy by Megg Jensen, there are people with fiery red hair, piercing blue eyes and magic and on the other hand there’s… the not-so-cool average folk. For years, there has been tension between the Fithians and the Dalagan – the Fithians being your average human folk and the Dalagan being a magical group of people who were conquered by the aforementioned. Lianne, a Dalagan adoptee and personal handmaiden to the Queen of Fithian, gets her world turned upside down when she turns sixteen and discovers that she is capable of the magic of her people. When the Queen gets accused of treason and is sent to the dungeons to await her execution, Lianne, enraged and capable to fight, has to make life-changing decisions to help save her dear royal friend.

I stayed away from Netgalley this time as I have so many books left to read that I basically don’t know where to look. I’m aiming to get some of the book I got off Netgalley done so I can get my percentage up and then get back to requesting new books! The book craze is slowly starting to return to me, which is really nice. I was contacted by an author to read and review her book, which is always nice anddd… yep!

Book Review (+ release day!): The Pandora Chronicles by Ryan Attard

The Pandora Chronicles (The Pandora Chronicles, #1)The Pandora Chronicles by Ryan Attard

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book from Shannon Thompson on behalf of the author, Ryan Attard, in exchange for an honest review. Receiving a free copy has in no way affected my review.

The Pandora Chronicles tells the story in which an alien species left its imprint on some of the humans in the world. These individuals, known as Selects, carry around a DNA strand that make them different from the rest of the human population. With an alien race naturally come a ton of secrets, and in The Pandora Chronicles, the story is bustling with a secret society, orbs of world destruction and/or domination (I’d like ten) and two timelines mingling together.

WWW Wednesdays #13

Hello buddies, remember me? I have decided to return from the land of book-dead after a two week hiatus. Things have not really quieted down here, nor have things really improved, but I do want to get back into reading and tomorrow marks the release day for one of the ARC’s I got offered, so I’m trying to get back into things! If you are still here, thank you!

Book review: The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

The Song of Achilles The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Note: This review is longer than my usual ones!

Madeline Miller’s The Song of Achilles tells the story of Achilles and Patroclus – Patroclus, a prince who is part of an unfortunate accident, is exiled to the court of King Peleus and his son, Achilles the demi-god. The two become good friends, often spend time together playing games and learning to fight, despite the protests of Achilles’ mother, Thetis the sea-nymph. Very quickly, the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus blossoms into something much deeper and serious and when Helen of Sparta gets kidnapped, Achilles is forced to go to war and fight the battle of Troy. Patroclus goes with him, unable to leave his side and a battle for love, honor and pride begins.
