Happy new year, book lovers!

Nope, your eyes are not deceiving you! This is an actual post after a bit of a hiatus. Things got really hectic and quite frankly, really messy towards the end of the year and it had a horrible effect on my reading. I couldn’t focus on any of the books I was reading and after I made that awkward mistake in my review of The Land of Dragor (a really sloppy mistake, mind you), I decided to take a break. Things have not sorted themselves out yet, but I’ve been really wanting to read more again lately and I think that’s a good sign.

I have a review ready to be posted tomorrow around this time and it’s a good one — I read Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch during and around Christmas and it was … amazing. I really enjoyed it a lot, so if you are interested in this book and/or reading my review of it, then this is the place to be tomorrow!

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas/holiday season and hope you also have a nice new year celebration 🙂

See you tomorrow!

Book review: Sleepers by Megg Jensen

Sleepers (The Swarm Trilogy, #1)Sleepers by Megg Jensen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Many thanks to the author Megg Jensen and the publisher, DarkSide Publishing.

In the world of Sleepers, the first book in The Swarm Trilogy by Megg Jensen, there are people with fiery red hair, piercing blue eyes and magic and on the other hand there’s… the not-so-cool average folk. For years, there has been tension between the Fithians and the Dalagan – the Fithians being your average human folk and the Dalagan being a magical group of people who were conquered by the aforementioned. Lianne, a Dalagan adoptee and personal handmaiden to the Queen of Fithian, gets her world turned upside down when she turns sixteen and discovers that she is capable of the magic of her people. When the Queen gets accused of treason and is sent to the dungeons to await her execution, Lianne, enraged and capable to fight, has to make life-changing decisions to help save her dear royal friend.

Stacking the Shelves – #8

It is once again Saturday, which means it’s time for another Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. In Stacking the Shelves, you show the books you’ve recently purchased, borrowed or otherwise got, be it physical or virtual which you, naturally, will be adding to your shelves! For more information about it all, visit this page.

I stayed away from Netgalley this time as I have so many books left to read that I basically don’t know where to look. I’m aiming to get some of the book I got off Netgalley done so I can get my percentage up and then get back to requesting new books! The book craze is slowly starting to return to me, which is really nice. I was contacted by an author to read and review her book, which is always nice anddd… yep!

Book review: Soulless by Amber Garr

SoullessSoulless by Amber Garr

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Many thanks to the author Amber Garr and the publisher, Hallowed Ink Press.

Soulless is a story with a whole new take on the afterlife and how souls are collected when people die. Nora is a Warden, someone who collects souls when people die and brings the deceased to their final resting place. There’s only one problem: aside from Death Wardens like Nora, there are also Soul Hunters – people who have given into darkness and aim to steal souls from the Wardens. Nora’s ex, Theron, is a former Warden who switched sides and now aids the Soul Hunters. When Nora’s charges – the people she is supposed to save – are all targets for the Soul Hunters, a true old fashioned fight between good and evil breaks loose.
